Honeypaw needed to get out of there. It itched at her paws, tugged at her pelt, an invisible force that restrained her from doing anything out of the ordinary. It dragged her through the same old routines day in, day out. She need to do anything that wasn’t patrolling, hunting, training, chores. There was so much more to the world than the routine of clan life. The key was to go before anyone noticed. It was that which prompted the she-cat’s consciousness, the light of dawn not yet reaching the camp, even if through the entrance she could see the first shifts of light across the darkened sky.
Carefully, the ginger she-cat pried herself free of the soft moss nest, her position near the entrance key to escaping without a voice being raised. Sure enough, no peep came from the other apprentices, wrapped up in their own worlds. She could see Mottlepaw, Plumpaw and Yewpaw bundled close together, Ravenpaw and Tinypaw, Pearpaw and Kinkpaw… They all seemed a peace. So many faces, yet, how much did she even talk to any of them? There was no doubting she was a cat who often kept to herself, however, it did make her wonder; what did the clan and clan life as a whole even meant to her?
The apprentice gave her head a little shake. It didn’t matter, not really. Those who she was meant to form a connection with would come to her. That was how the world worked, wasn’t it? As far as she was concerned, friends weren’t something that needed to be forced into her life. She was just fine on her own, with her thoughts. That is an awfully lonely life, though, isn’t it? Honeypaw moved quickly, a glance around the clearing proved to be empty, no cats yet to surface to greet the dawn. She couldn’t blame them really, especially with the slight chill in the air. As they approached Greenleaf though, no doubt that would pass on.
With quick, quiet pawsteps, Honeypaw made her movement toward the camp entrance. No doubt she wasn’t meant to leave without another cat. But surely if she said she was just going to practice her hunting and would be back quickly, they’d let her out? Especially given she knew the guards on duty certainly didn’t have a backbone about sticking to the rules. Flicking her tail, Honeypaw drew close to the tunnel, and glanced around behind her once, before slowly turning back, and taking a step forward, ready to go.
